The Fleur de Chine Hotel Staff Dormitory

The Fleur de Chine Hotel (previously Fenisia Hotel) has over 300 employees, half of whom are non-locals. The Hotel owner bought a piece of land in Yuchih Township near the Sun Moon Lake to build a staff dormitory, in the hopes of providing a safe, convenient and cozy abode equipped with leisure facilities.

The site is half-concealed in the serenity yielded by a betel grove; convenient, and close to downtown Yuchih. The building will serve as staff dormitory and also accommodate travel guides and drivers in some rooms. Thus, half of the open land will be used as parking lot for tour buses and a simple sports court. For employees’ needs, a motorcycle parking lot (with 60 spaces) and a car parking lot (with12 spaces) are also planned.

The 3-story building, where column studs on the rooftop are reserved for possible expansion, has a variety of suites accommodating 1 to 4 people and 160 beds. The first floor is designed to include the grand lobby, a gym, 8 rooms for drivers and tour guides, and 8 staff rooms. The second floor consists of 21 rooms, a canteen space, a laundry room and a tea room. The third floor has 21 rooms in the male/female sections with separate common facilities.

The exterior adopts a steady, warm color for the building to blend in the quiet surroundings. The design of the façade coheres to the straight and slim form of betel trees and the surrounding landscape, complemented by horizontal plait railings in the east and west sides that provide shading and energy-saving, as well as create a contrasting effect. The dormitory surrounded by the greenery is expected to give a warm, homey feel to the staff.
