Plant Phase I & II, IMPAX Laboratories (Taiwan), Inc.
In 2007, IMPAX Laboratories, Inc. decided to build its first overseas pharmaceutical plant at Hsinchu Science Park, Chunan. It is the first pharmaceutical facility of oral administration drugs in Taiwan that plans to obtain FDA (U.S. Food & Drug Administration) approval. The building contains pilot plants as well as standard production areas, laboratories, offices, a canteen space and utilities rooms.
The full height windows of office areas folded around by the slab-like components are a metaphor for the layered manufacturing process of the pills called CMDS system (Concentric Multiple-Particulate Delivery System), one of IMPAX’s advanced controlled-release techniques. In addition, not only does the deep folding roof overhang provide the office areas with greater shading, but the floor to ceiling windows also admit adequate indirect daylight into the offices. Aside from main offices, the large window openings are not preferred. The smaller vertical windows, decked with spandrels elevation in IMPAX corporate blue, derived from the idea of DNA autoradiogram image.
