Headquarters Building for Macronix International Co. Ltd., Hsinchu
Situated within the Science Based Industrial Park on a site 8.2 hectares in area, our client planed to build a hi-tech headquarters building, a research and development center, a staff training and recreation facility in addition to the existing Fab which is to be expanded through several phases. The headquarters building has twelve floors above ground and four floors below. The research and development center is seven stories. Total floor area is about 67,000 sqm with a construction cost of NT$ 1,200,000,000. Completed in May of 1998.
The site is irregular in shape, bordered on the southeast with its only access road. Five hectares near its northeastern corner are allocated for a public park and a geological fault runs through its northwesterly area. The primary challenge is to convert the various "negative" spaces into valuable assets and create a campus-like environment. To accomplish this aim, the headquarters building of gently curvilinear shape is situated parallel to the access road, with its conference and reception rooms of circular form projecting above the main lobby to serve as a landmark image for the establishment. The seven-story R & D building, with staff dining rooms on the first and second floors, faces the future park. It joins the conference center and the existing production plant on the other sides to form a courtyard which provides a pleasant outdoor space for staff members to meet, mingle and socialize.
The staff training and recreation center will be located on the northwestern part of the site and will contain a gymnasium, swimming pool, multi-use hall, auditorium with ancillary meeting rooms, and guest room facilities for staff and family members.
