Fab, TSMC (Shanghai) Company Limited
This project marks the first investment by TSMC in mainland China with a Wafer Fab. The site is located in the suburb of Shanghai, to the west of University City in Songjjang Industrial Zone: a level plot of land 2,000x850 meters in size, with Chang-Xing-Gang River bordering the east side, the Tongsan State-highway on its west, a 35 meter Park Driveway on its south, and Mount Heng on its north side.
The project is designed to be built in four phases, in consecutive areas from east to west, with emphasis on environmental concern. Incorporating the ancient Chinese concept of "Preserving the Green while Eliminating the Weeds" and "Sitting on the North to Face the South", a large open plaza is provided at the south side of the site while the buildings will lean against Mount Hun in the distant north for stability and strength. A ribbon-like stream will course through all four areas as a connecting feature. Each of the four phase buildings will contain an Administration Building, a Twin-Fab, a Center Utility Plant, a Support Building, as well as other auxiliary buildings.
The facade of the Administration Building will feature a red colored TSMC "NO.1" logo and enclosed by a curved, glazed curtain wall. A curved driveway coordinating with the watercourse will connect the entire site. Within the building a tall, curved main hall forms a Sun-lit Art Gallery to respond to the total design.
