Joshua Pan, FAIA, was invited by the China Hospital Architects Alliance (CHAA) to participate in the 2019 China Hospital Construction & Development Conference in Nanchang, Jiangxi from June 14th to 17th. In addition, Mr. Pan was invited to make a speech at the CHAA’s 4th private salon.
Mr. Pan shared his personal stories since the 1990s when he has led a group of designers at JJP with past experiences of designing large-scale hospitals overseas to improve the situation in Taiwan. He believes hospital designs should not only consider the functional aspect of spaces but also focus on creating a humanistic healthcare environment that prioritizes the holistic needs of the users.
The “Chinese Hospital Architecture & Craftsmanship Award”, founded by CHAA, is widely recognized for its influence in both the professional and academic fields due to its fairness in judgment and detachment from commercial practices. This year, The National Taiwan University Hospital Cancer Center, designed by JJP, was awarded Project of the Year while Mr. Pan was awarded Person of the Year.
Looking back on the challenges he has endured and accolades he has achieved, Mr. Pan generously shared his thoughts on architecture with fellow students and practitioners through the CHAA.
